The first cases of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Norway. The Norwegian health authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are prepared for more cases.
-The Norwegian health authorities are prepared for the coronavirus, and have already put several measures into action. Those who have tested positive are healthy, but they are in daily contact with health care personnel.
I am following the situation closely, and I am also receiving frequent updates from the Norwegian Directorate of Health and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. It is important that everyone do what they can to limit the risk of infection by following the official advice for hygiene: Wash your hands regularly and cough into paper or your elbow, says Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie.
The health services and other relevant agencies such as the police, airports etc. have received relevant information. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health is also providing advice to citizens about travel, preventive measures, what to do if you suspect infection and on other relevant issues.
The Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services is in close contact with WHO, and is also cooperating with other European countries through the EU Health Security Committee.
