The challenging security situation in Europe was the main topic when ministers Wallace and Enoksen met in in Oslo on Thursday 13th of January.
- Both the UK and Norway are deeply concerned about the situation in and around Ukraine. We value our close cooperation with our most important European ally, and appreciate this opportunity to discuss the security situation and our bilateral cooperation, says Enoksen.
NATO cooperation in light of the security situation in Europe was also on the agenda.
- Norway is a credible and relevant ally, and we are NATO's eyes and ears in the north. The Armed Forces operate at home and abroad with our allies to protect our security. We are following the situation closely, says Enoksen.
Odd Roger Enoksen also invited his British colleague to return to Norway at a later stage, to meet Norwegian and British forces who regularly train in demanding Norwegian winter conditions.
- Norway and the United Kingdom have a longstanding and close cooperation that we would like to develop further. We have talked about how we can deepen our cooperation in areas such as training and situational awareness in the north. Both countries have acquired F-35 fighter jets and P-8 maritime patrol aircraft, and we are looking at how we can strengthen output from these capabilities through cooperation. Norway also greatly appreciates the British leadership in the Joint Expeditionary Force, which brings together allies and partners in Northern Europe, says Enoksen.
