Norwegian students will not have to pay for staying at a quarantine hotel

‘The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly, and we must adapt the rules that stipulate who have to stay at a quarantine hotel accordingly. Presently, it is the rate of infection in the country you are in that determines whether you must quarantine or not, as well as the duration of the quarantine period. I understand that students may have difficulty paying the quarantine hotel fee, and I am happy to announce this solution’, says Minister of Justice and Public Security Monica Mæland.

The Norwegian Government is introducing an addendum to section 22 of the COVID-19 Regulations, which entails an exemption from the fee for Norwegian students returning from studies abroad who must quarantine at a quarantine hotel upon arrival in Norway.

Norwegian students who quarantine at a quarantine hotel, in accordance with section 5, after returning from studies abroad do not have to pay the fee.

‘This is good news for all Norwegian students abroad. A bill in the thousands would certainly put a dent in a student’s wallet, but now Norwegian students can plan their return trip knowing that we will cover the costs if they have to stay at a quarantine hotel’, says Minister of Research and Higher Education Henrik Asheim.
