Norway is currently providing approximately 60 military personnel to the Counter ISIL (C-ISIL) Coalition Training Centre in Erbil in North Iraq. The Norwegian government decided 6 March 2017, based on the C-ISIL Coalition´s needs, to move the personnel to the Anbar province in western Iraq.
Norwegian advisors will train and advise brigade and division levels of Iraqi security forces.
The engagement in Anbar gives increased opportunities for expanded co-operation with close allies, both in training and advising Iraqi forces and through logistical co-operation.
Norway will continue posting staff officers at coalition headquarters.
