Press release | Date: 28/03/2025 | Ministry of Digitalisation and Public Governance
In an era of widespread global unrest, collaboration is crucial to promote and preserve an open, secure and inclusive internet. “IGF 2025 will be the largest UN meeting ever held in Norway and an important arena for collaboration,” says Norway’s Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance Karianne Tung.
In June, thousands of participants from around the world will gather in Norway for The Internet Governance Forum 2025 (IGF 2025) to share knowledge, build partnerships and jointly address important issues related to the development of the internet.
The Internet Governance Forum will run over five days with hundreds of different presentations, meetings and workshops organised on carefully selected topics. More than 4,000 in-person participants and a similar number of digital participants are expected to attend the IGF 2025.
“We look forward to welcoming you to the largest UN conference ever held on Norwegian soil. We cannot take it as a matter of course that the internet is open, safe and free for all. We are therefore inviting representatives from all over the world to take part in discussions on important issues and priorities for governments and decision makers,” says Tung.
The Norwegian Government is in the process of sending out invitations to key state players in all the UN member states, and a number of ministers and other high-ranking participants are expected to attend the conference.
IGF has chosen “Building Digital Governance Together” as the overarching theme for this year’s conference, and a number of ministers will contribute to the programme.
The four subthemes are:
- (Building) – Digital Trust and Resilience
- (Building) – Sustainable and Responsible Innovation
- (Building) – Universal Access and Digital Rights
- (Building) – Digital Cooperation
This year’s conference marks the 20th anniversary of the IGF and will be held at Nova Spektrum in Lillestrøm, Norway, from 23 to 27 June 2025.
