Norway is transferring Palestinian clearence revenues

‘I am very pleased that Norway, based on an understanding between the Palestinian and Israeli governments, is transferring USD 438 million, which the Palestinian government will use to cover expenses for electricity and fuel,’ said Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

Since February last year, Norway has facilitated a temporary arrangement between the Palestinian and Israeli governments, whereby part of the clearance revenues that Israel collects on behalf of Palestine have been deposited in an account in Norway, See The Palestinian Authority has received a transfer of tax funds.

‘By transferring USD 438 million to cover electricity and petroleum expenses at the request of the Palestinian government, the Palestinian government is able to pay salaries to public employees, and the population in Palestine will continue to receive basic services such as healthcare and education,’ said Eide.

Palestine is facing the largest economic decline in its history. As chair of the AHLC donor group for Palestine, Norway is working together with the Palestinian government, other donors, and partners to strengthen Palestinian institutions.

'It is crucial for the Palestinians that the government has the funds to operate and can provide basic services to the population. Strengthening the Palestinian institutions is also a prerequisite for a political process and the two-state solution,' said Eide.
