Norway's Minister of Trade and Industry visits Poland

Norway's Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Cecilie Myrseth visited Warsaw on Friday, September 27, where she met with her Polish counterpart and Norwegian businesses in Poland to discuss opportunities for trade and business cooperation.

- Poland is a large and increasingly important economic partner for Norway and Norwegian business interests. Economic ties have grown over time, and more and more Norwegian companies are present in Poland. I am committed to maintaining the close ties we have with Poland and strengthening the good dialogue, says Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth (Ap).

Poland is Norway’s fifth largest export market overall and the largest for seafood. Never before has there been so much trade between the countries as there is now; trade has increased by a staggering 880 percent since 2004 and continues to grow.

In Warsaw, Minister Myrseth met with her Polish colleague, Krzysztof Paszyk, who is Poland’s Minister for Economic Development and Technology. Minister Myrseth also participated in a meeting with Norwegian businesses in Poland, where the topics were opportunities and challenges for Norwegian businesses in Poland.

Upon entering Poland, Minister Myrseth also visited the border town of Rzeszow, where she received a briefing on medical evacuations from Ukraine to Europe.

Norwegian air transport has accounted for nearly half of the evacuations of injured and wounded individuals from Ukraine to European countries, and Norway is the only country offering regular flights.

- Many European countries have the capacity to receive patients, but not suitable transport capacity. Norway’s transport contribution plays thus an important role, helping to ensure that hospital capacity in Europe can be utilized to relieve Ukraine’s heavily pressured healthcare system, says Minister Myrseth.

The government recently announced that Norway will extend the agreement with the EU on medical evacuation of Ukrainian patients until April 30, 2025.
