Norway has submitted its ninth periodic report to the UN Committee against Torture.
The report answers the Committee’s list of issues from 2021, which concern matters covered by the UN Convention against Torture. The periodic report covers the period between 2018 and 2021. A draft of the report was released for public consultation.
The UN Committee against Torture (CAT) has an important mandate to monitor states’ compliance with obligations under the UN Convention against Torture (UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment). The Convention was ratified by Norway in 1986.
States submit periodic reports every four years. This is followed by a hearing in Geneva. The time for the hearing of Norway’s ninth periodic report is to be confirmed.
