State budget for 2025:

Norwegian government making arrangements for 1,500 round-the-clock care places

In the state budget for 2025, the Norwegian government is proposing a commitment framework of NOK 3.25 billion for investment subsidies, corresponding to around 1,500 round-the-clock care places.

“Those who need a place in a nursing home should get one. We’re keeping our promises and making arrangements for 1,500 round-the-clock care places in 2025,” says Jan Christian Vestre, Minister of Health and Care Services.

The proposal involves an allocation of NOK 325 million in 2025 to cover the commitment framework in the first year, so that the municipalities can create new spaces and modernise the spaces they already have.

“Although most elderly people want to live at home for as long as they can, not everything can be provided in the individual’s own home, which is why more nursing home places must be provided. Quality must improve, and differences in the quality of care for the elderly must be reduced. It’s essential that our elderly people can feel confident that the services are available when needed, and that there’s a space in a nursing home ready if they need it. It’s about ensuring a sense of security in day-to-day life for both the elderly person themselves and their relatives,” says Vestre.
