Palestinian Prime Minister to pay official visit to Norway
Press release | Date: 13/01/2025 | Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa is coming to Norway on an official visit on 14–15 January. This is the first official visit from Palestine since Norway recognised Palestine as a state.
During the visit, Prime Minister Mustafa will meet with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, President of the Storting (Norwegian parliament) Masud Gharahkhani and members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence. Prime Minister Mustafa will also have an audience with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon. The main focus of the visit will be the situation in Palestine and Norway’s work to support the realisation of the Palestinian state within the framework of the two-state solution.
The visit by the Palestinian Prime Minister coincides with the meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution to be hosted by Norway on 15 January. Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide and Prime Minister Mustafa will be giving the opening remarks at the meeting.
The visit is taking place at a very difficult time for the Palestinian people. The war between Israel and Hamas has given rise to a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and the scale of suffering among the civilian population is enormous. Hospitals and aid workers are being attacked in violation of international law, and humanitarian actors are not being allowed in to deliver life-saving assistance. The situation in the West Bank is also becoming increasingly grave.
