Sigrun Gjerløw Aasland (b. 1978) was appointed State Secretary for Climate and the Environment on May 3rd, 2024.

 

Sigrun Gjerløw Aasland grew up in Grimstad in Agder county. She has a Master of Arts in Economics and International relations from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at the Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC. She has also studied sociology, comparative politics, and economics at the University of Bergen, Norway, and attended the University of Perpignan, France.

 

Ms Aasland was previously the Managing Director of the Norwegian climate organization ZERO. Her background further includes the position as Deputy Director of the Norwegian think tank Tankesmien Agenda, Managing Director in the consulting firm Damvad, as well various positions with Econ Pöyry, Norfund, and the World Bank.
