Measures approved by the Allies at the Washington Summit include EUR 40 billion in support within the next year, a greater coordinating role for NATO in training and weapons support, and the appointment of a NATO Senior Representative to head the NATO Representation to Ukraine.

    ‘Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against air attacks is crucial in its battle against Russia. Norway has now decided to donate six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. We plan to start delivering the aircraft in the course of 2024,’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Norway has joined a number of other countries in providing Ukraine with access to F-16 fighter aircraft, which are crucial to enabling the country to defend itself against the attacks by Russian forces.

    At the request of the Government, the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency has entered into an agreement with the aerospace and defence company Nammo that paves the way for a significant increase in the production of artillery ammunition and missiles. The agreement provides funding of more than NOK 1 billion, and Nammo has committed to maintaining the new production capacity for at least 15 years.

    The Safe Schools Declaration was developed through a process led by Argentina and Norway, with the objective of avoiding military use of schools and strengthen protection of children and education in conflict. The declaration was launched at the Oslo Conference on Safe Schools: Protecting Education from Attack, 28-29 May 2015. The main objective of the Conference was to for states to endorse the Safe Schools Declaration. Since the Oslo conference, states and civil society work together to increase the number of endorsements and to implement the declaration.
