Prime Minister participated in Nordic-Indian summit in Copenhagen

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the prime ministers of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden at a Nordic-Indian summit held in Copenhagen today. New sanctions against Russia incorporated into Norwegian law

Norway has introduced additional sanctions in response to Russia’s illegal attack on Ukraine. The new sanctions encompass restrictive measures prohibiting the transport of goods by road by Russian transport operators and access to ports of vessels registered under the flag of Russia.

The Norwegian Government is expanding the temporary collective protection scheme for displaced people from Ukraine. Ukrainian citizens who were in Norway on 24 February 2022 can also receive collective protection now.

Proposal for temporary amendments to the Child Welfare Act to handle the increase in refugees from Ukraine to Norway

A large number of children are expected to arrive in Norway in the same period of time and many may require help from the child welfare service. The Norwegian Government is proposing necessary adaptations today to prepare the services to receive several children over a short period of time.

Temporary legislative changes proposed to ensure readiness to receive large numbers of displaced Ukrainians

The situation in Ukraine and the surrounding areas is unpredictable and Norway is planning in order to be able to receive a large number of displaced persons. The government has put forward a proposal to introduce emergency powers in the Planning and Building Act to speed up the process of welcoming and finding homes for refugees from Ukraine.

Norway to strengthen efforts to combat hunger and alleviate need in Horn of Africa

‘Some 20 million people are facing severe hunger as a result of drought in the Horn of Africa. Norway is therefore strengthening its efforts to alleviate need and prevent famine in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya,’ said Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt. Norway is providing an additional NOK 200 million in humanitarian support to the Horn of Africa.
