Occupational retraining for Russian officers
14 th> December 1999 the Norwegian and the Russian Ministry of defence signed a protocol of intention for occupational retraining of Russian officers. The first course started 6 th> March 2000, and now course number six is about to start up. The course takes place in Murmansk and lasts for 4 months.
The idea behind the project is to increase the opportunity for redundant Russian officers to start a civilian career. So far 344 officers have been retrained, and 50-70 % of the participants have got new jobs. The courses take place at the Murmansk State Technical University and in the employment services center, also in Murmansk. The Norwegian part of the training consists of quality control and guest lecturers, and is handled by the Bodø Regional University. The graduates also receive a diploma from the university.
