The Government Petroleum Fund: Ethical Guidelines and the Advisory Council on Ethics

The Petroleum Fund’s Advisory Council on Ethics was established today by Royal Decree. Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance issued a new regulation on the management of the Government Petroleum Fund which also includes ethical guidelines. The new regulation will be effective from 1 December 2004.

The Advisory Council on Ethics was established as part of the implementation of the ethical guidelines for the Government Petroleum Fund. These guidelines were presented in the ethical guidelines, based on the proposal from the Graver Committee which presented its report in June 2003. The mandate of the Council is to advise the Ministry of Finance on screening and exclusion of companies whose activities may be inconsistent with the ethical guidelines for the Government Petroleum Fund.

The members of the Advisory Council on Ethics are:

Deputy Director General Gro Nystuen, (Chairwoman)
Professor Andreas Føllesdal
Product Safety Manager Anne Lill Gade
Associate Professor Ola Mestad
Chief Executive Officer Bjørn Østbø.
