Foreign Minister Jan Petersen condemns terrorist attack in Kenya
"I was deeply shocked to hear of the terrorist attack in Mombasa, which killed and injured both Kenyans and Israeli tourists," said Foreign Minister Jan Petersen. "I would like to express my deepest sympathy with the victims and their families.
"The debris is still being cleared away at the site of the attack and we do not yet know exactly what happened, but so far 12 people are reported killed, three Israelis and six Kenyans, as well as the suicide bombers themselves. Two of the victims are said to be children," said Mr Petersen.
The suicide bombers attacked at almost the same time as missiles were fired at a plane carrying Israeli tourists that had just taken off from the airport in Mombasa.
"I strongly deplore all forms of terrorism," said the Minister. "Attacks on unsuspecting, innocent people are particularly reprehensible. This underlines how important it is that we stand united in the fight against international terrorism," he concluded.
