Relations between India and Pakistan
"Today I have deplored the recent terrorist attacks against India in Jammu and Kashmir to the Indian Foreign Minister. I have also expressed my concern over the critical state of the relations between India and Pakistan and my view that a military conflict between these two countries would be a threat to their peoples and to stability in the whole south Asian region," said Foreign Minister Jan Petersen in connection with the increase in tension between India and Pakistan after the attack on an Indian military barracks last week.
Today Norway also aligned itself with an EU declaration on the tense situation between India and Pakistan. The declaration expresses concern at the increased military activity on both sides of the border. It calls on India and Pakistan to take the necessary steps to avoid further escalation of the conflict. It also stresses that terrorism is a common enemy irrespective of who it is directed against.
