Foreign Ministry arranges international seminar on India on 26 May at the Nobel Institute

On 26 May the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be holding a seminar at the Nobel Institute entitled "India in the 21 st> Century – a Major International Power". India’s current role will be discussed from a geopolitical and foreign policy perspective.

The seminar is being organised around presentations by three well-known international experts: Professor Stephen P. Cohen (Brookings Institution), Mr Salman Khursheed (All India Congress Committee) and Professor Raja Mohan (Jawaharlal Nehru University). A panel of Nordic experts will comment on the presentations. State Secretary Vidar Helgesen will open the seminar, which will also be open for questions from the press.

"India is playing an increasingly global role, both politically and economically. As a major power in South Asia, India has considerable influence on issues that also engage Norway. It is therefore important for Norway to strengthen its bilateral co-operation with India by developing a political partnership based on common interests. We should also promote knowledge of India among the general public," said Mr Helgesen.
