Norwegian support for the victims of the tsunami following the earthquake in South East Asia
Norway is in touch with the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Norwegian relief organisations regarding the relief work following the tsunami in South East Asia. So far only Sri Lanka has requested international assistance.
“I have therefore instructed our embassy in Colombo to inform the Sri Lankan authorities that Norway is making NOK 10 million available for humanitarian assistance following the tsunami. We will consider providing additional funds when the needs have been more clearly defined,” said Minister of International Development Hilde F. Johnson.
