Earlier this week, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen made a proposal for an urgent high-level meeting between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to review the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement, in order to find practical ways of ensuring full compliance.

On 18 August, both the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE confirmed to the Government of Norway their agreement to the proposed talks.
