Ambitious goals – no time to lose
The international community has set itself ambitious goals for sustainable development. The CSD must help ensure that these commitments are delivered upon. We have no time to lose when it comes to transforming global commitments into action at the local and regional levels. (11.07.03)
As newly elected chair of the CSD, I will make it a priority to uphold the political momentum from Johannesburg in the areas of water, sanitation and human settlements, to which the Commission has decided to devote most of its attention over the next two years. Progress in these areas will help reach goals in other important areas such as health, education, gender equality, biodiversity as well as poverty eradication.
