Knut Arild Hareide has today been appointed Minister of Environment in Norway. He follows Børge Brende, who has become Minister of Trade and Industry. Hareide has been deputy leader of the Christian Democratic Party since May 2003. (18.06.04)

Knut Arild Hareide has today been appointed Minister of Environment in Norway. He follows Børge Brende, who has become Minister of Trade and Industry. Hareide has been deputy leader of the Christian Democratic Party since May 2003. (18.06.04)
Hareide (31) comes from Bømlo in Hordaland. He was State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance 2001-2203. Hareide has a degree from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration and has studied sociology at the University of Bergen.
Hareide was active in student politics, including as a member of the student parliament at the University of Bergen, as a leader of the Student Union at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, and as a member of national student union.
He has also been a member of the municipal council of Bømlo for the Christian Democratic Party and a member of Bømlo Cultural Committee.
