Norwegian Prime Minister offers
condolences to Indonesia and Australia


Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik of Norway has yesterday and today sent letters of condolences to President Megawati Soekarnoputri of Indonesia and Prime Minister John Howard of Australia, following the terrorist attack at Bali last Saturday.

The letter to President Soekarnoputri reads:

“Your Excellency,

I was deeply shocked by the horrific terrorist acts that have taken so many innocent lives on the Indonesian island of Bali.

On behalf of the Norwegian Government, I wish to extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to you, to the victims and their families, and to the Indonesian people.

We strongly condemn such acts of terror and will continue to take a strong stand against international terrorism.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.

The letter to Prime Minister Howard reads:

“Dear Prime Minister,

The Norwegian Government strongly condemns the horrific terrorist acts that have taken innocent lives on the Indonesian island of Bali.

On behalf of my Government, I extend my condolences and heartfelt sympathies to you, to the victims’ families and to the people of Australia.

Norway condemns all acts of terror and will continue to take a strong stand against international terrorism.
