15th round of licensing on the norwegian continental shelf - offers for participation in production licenses

Today the Cabinet decided to offer the industry blocks in the 15th Round of Licensing on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The Cabinet aims at allocating 18 production licenses, comprising 46 blocks or parts of blocks. 13 of the blocks are located in the North Sea and the remaining 33 blocks are located in the Norwegian Sea.

- Award of new production licenses will reduce the decrease in the oil production in the next century. The income from the 15th Round of Licensing will be an important contribution to the financing of the future welfare in Norway, says Minister of Industry and Energy Jens Stoltenberg.

At the time of announcement of the 15th Round of Licensing 3 February 1995 a total of 56 blocks in the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea were announced. By the application deadline 20 June 1995 The Ministry of Industry and Energy had received applications from 19 companies. All the 56 blocks announced were applied for.

- The interest for the 15th Round of Licensing has been very good. I have taken the industry's recommendations into consideration and will establish licence groups with fewer participants than in earlier rounds. Consequently the participating interest for each company will increase, says Minister of Industry and Energy Jens Stoltenberg.

The following companies are offered participating interest and operatorships: Amoco, BP, Esso, Hydro, Mobil, Phillips, Saga, Shell and Statoil.

The following companies are offered participating interest: Agip, Amerada Hess, Conoco, Elf, Enterprise, Fina, and TOTAL.

Deadline for acceptance of the offers is 29 August 1996.
