Some news media have indicated that Norway will be reluctant to provide support to the United States in accordance with Article 5 in the NATO-treaty. In that connection the Norwegian Minister of Defence, Mr Bjørn Tore Godal, gives the following statement:

Some news media have indicated that Norway will be reluctant to provide support to the United States in accordance with Article 5 in the NATO-treaty. In that connection the Norwegian Minister of Defence, Mr Bjørn Tore Godal, gives the following statement:
"We are of course prepared to provide the United States with all possible support. The United States is Norway’s most important ally. Norway is already providing intelligence assistance to the United States. If we receive a request for further support, including military support, we will of course respond positively, and in accordance with the obligations of article 5 of the NATO-treaty. Norwegian authorities are taking these obligations of solidarity very seriously."
