Norway has been quick to relax the restrictive measures against Former Yugoslavia in the light of the recent events in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

On 9 October Norway decided to amend the regulations concerning restrictive measures against Yugoslavia and the oil embargo and the flight ban were lifted with immediate effect. At the same time Norway has indicated that a lifting of the compulsory freeze of funds and the ban on transfers and investments will be continually reviewed in the light of developments.

In connection with President Kostunica’s official visit 31 October, Norway has decided to lift the general freeze of funds and ban on transfers and investments. However, the measures relating to Milosevic and his closest supporters will be upheld, according to Foreign Minister Thorbjørn Jagland.

The amended regulations will enter into force immediately.
