NORWAY CONCLUDES AN ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH INDONESIA WITH A FRAMEWORK OF NOK 20 MILLION

Minister of International Development Anne Kristin Sydnes will be signing an agreement with the Indonesian authorities on Thursday 1 March. The agreement has a framework of NOK 20 million.

"The Government’s intention with this agreement is to strengthen the environmental cooperation between Indonesia and Norway," says Ms Sydnes. The agreement will be signed in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, during the Minister’s one-week visit to Indonesia and East Timor. The purpose of the visit is to hold talks with key cooperation partners and to review Norwegian involvement in the region.

The Minister explains that the agreement is for four years and covers cooperation in the fields of biodiversity, climate change and cleaner production.

Indonesia and Norway concluded a memorandum of understanding on bilateral environmental cooperation in 1990. This has been followed up with a number of work programmes consisting of specific projects. The agreement to be signed on Thursday marks the start of the fourth work programme.
