Nominations for the 17th Licensing Round on the Norwegian Continental Shelf
The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has received nominations from 16 companies regarding blocks to be included in the 17th licensing round on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The nominating companies are: Agip, Amerada Hess, BP, Chevron, Conoco, Dong, Enterprise, ExxonMobile, Fortum, Norsk Hydro, Paladin, Phillips, RWE-DEA, Shell, Statoil and TotalFinaElf.
Two or more companies nominated 93 blocks in the Norwegian Sea. The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy will base the announcement of the 17th licensing round on these nominations.
-Through the 17th licensing round the companies on the NCS will get better access to new acreage that is important to the development of the petroleum activities in the Norwegian Sea. In the longer run, this round may result in new, profitable developments.
It is important that we continue to explore the Norwegian Sea for petroleum resources and that due considerations are made to the important interests of the environment and the fisheries, says Olav Akselsen, Minister of Petroleum and Energy in a comment to the nominations.
The Ministry aims to announce the blocks in December 2001. Awards could then take place before summer 2002.
