- I am pleased that there is focus on animal welfare. To engage in matters of animal welfare is an important value in Norwegian society. I am of the opinion that fur industry should be permitted in Norway, but keeping animals in non-compliance with the current legislation can of course not be tolerated. Fur producers are responsible for compliance with the current legislation, says the minister of Agriculture and Food Lars Peder Brekk.

In the future new Act on animal welfare which is currently in preparation, a legislative duty to alert the authorities on cases of animal maltreatment will be introduced. If a case of animal maltreatment is discovered, it is important to alert the authorities as soon as possible, so that measures to prevent further suffering can be taken.

- The Food Safety Authority has ensured me that they follow up on received tips and alerts, and I will keep informed regarding how the Food Safety Authority deals with such matters, says Brekk.
