“We are seeing the effects of pursuing a policy of responsible, long-term fisheries management. Combined with the prevailing natural conditions, this has now resulted in historically rich marine resources,” says Norway’s Minister for Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen.
A report entitled “Financial and biological key figures for the Norwegian fisheries in 2010” shows that Norway’s most important fish stocks have enjoyed strong growth during the last 25 years and today are in very good condition. The implementation of harvest control rules for a number of fish stocks and measures to combat IUU-fishing have been important factors in this increase in fish stocks.
”This also serves as inspiration to continue the long-term work of further developing resource management and building up other fish stocks that are still considered weak at present,” concludes Norway’s Minister for Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen.
