Meeting in Moscow on Maritime Delimitation Treaty

In connection with the upcoming entry into force of the Treaty between the Kingdom of Norway and the Russian Federation concerning Maritime Delimitation and Cooperation in the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean, representatives of Norwegian and Russian relevant ministries and agencies met in Moscow on June 2-3, 2011.

In particular, practical issues of Russian-Norwegian cooperation in such spheres, most significant for both sides, as fisheries and exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon resources were discussed.

Both sides emphasized the importance of responsible practical steps towards the implementation of the 2010 Treaty provisions, as well as their confidence that an orderly launch of the Treaty mechanisms of cooperation fully meets their mutual interests and corresponds to the spirit of good neighbourhood that underpins the Treaty.

Constructive and mutually beneficial Norwegian-Russian cooperation based on the 2010 Treaty will have a positive impact on the general situation in the Arctic region.
