Norway is providing NOK 5 million for immediate humanitarian relief in Georgia. The funds will be used for the Norwegian Red Cross’ deployment of a field hospital in the Gori area. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the situation closely and will assess the need for further assistance.
“The top priority now is to ensure that the wounded receive medical treatment and that the refugees are taken care of,” said State Secretary Raymond Johansen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We urge the parties to give humanitarian aid organisations the access they need to do their work, in particular the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which is playing a key role in the situation at hand,” said Mr Johansen.
“Norway is following the situation closely, and if it deteriorates, we will consider providing further humanitarian assistance,” the State Secretary added.
