“We are deeply concerned to hear that Afghan President Karzai has indicated that 16 convicted criminals are to be executed,” said State Secretary Gry Larsen.
“Together with the EU member states and Switzerland, Norway will express its concern directly to the Afghan authorities. We call on the Afghan authorities not to carry out the death sentences and to institute a moratorium on the death penalty,” State Secretary Gry Larsen said.
Norway opposes the death penalty as a matter of principle.
