Additional Norwegian support for victims of earthquake in Pakistan
Norway will provide a further NOK 60 million in assistance to the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan. Norway’s total contribution to South Asia now amounts to NOK 240 million.
“The situation is serious for large parts of the population who have been affected by the earthquake in Pakistan. Winter is approaching and a great many people, children in particular, are in danger of losing their lives. They urgently need relief on a larger scale and at a faster tempo,” said International Development Minister Erik Solheim.
The additional funds will go to the UN’s relief work. This will bring Norway’s total support for the UN efforts to NOK 130 million.
Support is also being channelled through the Red Cross and other NGOs, and Norway is contributing to the NATO air-transport operations at the request of the UN.
