Positive signs from Iran
Foreign Minister Støre is very pleased to note the outcome of the meeting of the IAEA’s Board of Governors. The board concluded that Iran has met some of the demands made by the international community in order to prevent the country developing nuclear weapons.
- The outcome of the board meeting shows that there is political will to reach a negotiated solution. This is in line with the view Norway has advocated in the IAEA, said Mr Støre.
The Foreign Minister underlined that it is now important that the Iranian authorities take an open attitude and resume negotiations with the EU. This means, among other things, that Iran must give the IAEA full access to the country’s nuclear activities.
Mr Støre added that Norway will continue to advocate a negotiated solution. - We will do this mainly in cooperation with the EU and key members of the IAEA’s board. Norway will also maintain contact with the Iranian authorities, the Foreign Minister concluded.
