Minister of Foreign Affairs condemns North Korean nuclear test
“Norway condemns the nuclear test carried out by North Korea last night,” says Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre.
Norway expressed its deep concern to North Korea last week, when the country announced that it was planning to carry out a nuclear test. North Korea’s nuclear test is a clear violation of the international moratorium on nuclear testing. “We must at all costs avoid other countries taking this as a precedent to also undertake nuclear tests,” says Mr Støre.
The test is also a serious setback for regional stability. “Norway is keen to ensure that the matter is taken up in the UN Security Council, which is the appropriate body to deal with this type of threat to regional and international stability,” says Mr Støre.
