Guidelines for the press in connection with HM The Queen’s birthday celebration on 4-6 July

The celebration of the Queen’s birthday will begin in Stavanger on the morning of 4 July with the royal family walking up from the royal yacht to the cathedral, where there will be a church service.


The celebration of the Queen’s birthday will begin in Stavanger on the morning of 4 July with the royal family walking up from the royal yacht to the cathedral, where there will be a church service. This will be followed by a walk through town with entertainment along the route. Guests from other European royal families will arrive in Stavanger in the course of the day. The City of Stavanger will host a luncheon at Hall Toll. In the evening there will be a private gala dinner at Flor og Fjær in Sør-Hidle, before the royal family and their guests go on board KS Norge, KS Dannebrog and KNM Horten.

On Tuesday 5 July, The Queen will open the Spagereid Canal and visit the lighthouse at Lindesnes, before sailing further east on KS Norge. Members of the press will be able to follow KS Norge in boats on parts of the cruise.
On Friday 6 July the cruise will sail through Blindleia, arriving in Arendal in the evening. The royal family will walk through the town, and there will be entertainment along the route. The cruise will end at the King and Queen’s summer house on Mågerø, where a private programme is planned.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has booked rooms for the press at Skagen Brygge Hotel from 3 to 6 July at NOK 1185 a night. Bus transport from Stavanger to Arendal on the morning of 5 July will be arranged. In Arendal rooms have been booked for the press at Clarion Hotel Tyholmen at NOK 1090 a night. The ministry is working on chartering a boat so that the press can cover parts of KS Norge’s cruise on 6 July. A boat will also be provided to take members of the press out to Lyngør on the evening of 6 July. The ministry has reserved a limited number of rooms, and a limited number of places will be available in the boat provided. From Arendal, there is regular bus and train service to both Oslo and Kristiansand. The press must make their own arrangements The ministry has not arranged special transport for the press for this stretch.

A press programme containing details about the cruise will be available later.
