“Norway is deeply concerned about the difficult political situation in Sudan,” said Minister of International Development Erik Solheim following the decision by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) to suspend its participation in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
The decision to recall the SPLM representatives was made in protest both against the slow progress in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and, more generally, against recent political developments in Sudan.
“I encourage both the SPLM and the National Congress Party to proceed with their dialogue immediately with a view to resolving outstanding issues. Furthermore, I urge the parties to safeguard the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, to implement it in good faith, and to resume political cooperation within the framework of the GNU,” said Mr Solheim.
