Foreign Minister welcomes Palestinian unity government
- Norway welcomes the agreement to form a Palestinian unity government. This is an important step towards halting internal violence among the Palestinians and creating stability in the Palestinian Territory, said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
- Saudi Arabia has, together with Egypt, Jordan, Syria and the Arab League, played a decisive role in the success of this process, he added.
- We are very pleased to see that President Abbas’ efforts, which we have supported all along, have now resulted in a joint Palestinian government platform. This could make it possible for Norway to fully resume normal relations with the Palestinian Authority once a new unity government is in place. I am currently in contact with my colleagues in other countries to seek their support for the results President Abbas has achieved, said Mr Støre.
