Norway’s Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre met Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Seyoum Mesfin, last week in New York in connection with the UN General Assembly. The two ministers agreed to normalise relations between Norway and Ethiopia. Accordingly, the Ethiopian Government has formally lifted the restrictions imposed on the Norwegian Embassy in Addis Ababa in the autumn of 2007.
“Norway is pleased that our relations with Ethiopia have now been normalised,” said Mr Støre.
“Norway has always attached importance to good relations with Ethiopia, which is an important country in the region. This decision will facilitate broader engagement in development cooperation, humanitarian efforts and political processes. We wish to continue our close, open political dialogue on key challenges for the region, and we will increase our presence in Addis Ababa during the course of the year,” Mr Støre continued.
