Israel jeopardises peace process

Norway strongly condemns the eviction of Palestinian families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah district in East Jerusalem on 2 August.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre commented: “The eviction of these Palestinian families is in breach of Israel’s obligations under international law, together with the destruction of Palestinian homes and the construction of new settlements in East Jerusalem, is jeopardising the peace process.

“The international community has repeatedly urged the Israeli authorities to refrain from such provocative acts towards Palestinians in the area. This is undermining the prospects for resolving the issue of Jerusalem within the frame of a two-state solution.”
