Hege Hertzberg (50) has been appointed Director for Development Policy in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim commented: “I congratulate Ms Hertzberg on this appointment, and look forward to working closely with her in the time to come.”
Ms Hertzberg will lead the work on developing long-term policy for priority areas. The most immediate of these are the links between climate change and development and between capital and development. Ms Hertzberg will also coordinate the work of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of the Environment, Norad (the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation) and other actors in these fields.
“Ms Hertzberg has done an excellent job as head of the Ministry’s Policy Analysis Unit. She was a driving force in the preparation of our recent development policy white paper.
“Much of her work will entail following up the approaches outlined in the white paper Climate, Conflict and Capital. Ms Hertzberg is definitely the right person for this job,” Mr Solheim added.
Prior to taking on this post, Ms Hertzberg was Deputy Director General of the Policy Analysis Unit. She has also previously headed the Section for International Development Policy, and has worked for many years in Norad. She has been posted to Botswana and Zimbabwe, and has earlier worked in Zambia as a member of FK Norway (the Norwegian Volunteer Service).
