Maritime delimitation treaty between Norway and Russia approved by the Storting

“Approval by the Storting was one important step needed for the treaty to enter into force. We are now awaiting its approval by Russia’s national assembly, the Duma. This will complete the process of establishing the maritime boundary between Norway and Russia in the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean once and for all,” said Norway’s Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The treaty establishing the maritime boundary between Norway and Russia in the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean was unanimously approved by the Storting today.

“The Storting has concluded that the agreement is balanced and will further strengthen cooperation between Norway and Russia,” commented Mr Støre, who also highlighted the fact that the Storting’s decision was based on a unanimous recommendation by the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.
