“I would like to congratulate Nabil El-Araby on his election as the new Secretary General of the Arab League. The choice of Dr El-Araby bodes well for the organisation, and I look forward to cooperating with him,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
“The Arab League has an important role to play in the upheaval sweeping the Arab world. This calls for good leadership, which I am confident that Dr El-Araby will provide,” said Mr Støre.
Nabil El-Araby is a prominent diplomat and lawyer and was appointed Egyptian Foreign Minister in March this year. He gave Egyptian diplomacy a clear profile in his short term as Foreign Minister.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Secretary-General, Amr Moussa, for our close and stimulating cooperation over the years,” said Mr Støre.
