“Israel’s use of violence against protesters attempting to cross the ceasefire line between Syria and the occupied Golan Heights is intolerable. The killing of unarmed protesters cannot be justified,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
“Israel’s use of violence against protesters attempting to cross the ceasefire line between Syria and the occupied Golan Heights is intolerable. The killing of unarmed protesters cannot be justified,” said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Last Sunday, Israeli forces opened fire on protesters attempting to negotiate the fence between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Several protesters were killed and wounded, but it is not clear how many.
“Norway condemns the use of violence and acts that provoke the use of violence. Syria, too, has a responsibility for preventing unrest in the area. This was the most serious incident on the Golan Heights since 1973, and it underscores the need for a comprehensive peaceful settlement between Israel and its neighbours,” said the Foreign Minister.
