Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre commented, “I deeply deplore the recent authorisation by the Israeli authorities of housing units in the West Bank. The building of settlements on occupied land is illegal and a violation of international law.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre commented, “I deeply deplore the recent authorisation by the Israeli authorities of housing units in the West Bank. The building of settlements on occupied land is illegal and a violation of international law.”
The Israeli authorities announced on 22 February that they have sanctioned 121 existing housing units, and have approved plans for the construction of a further 574 units in Israeli outposts and settlements in Shvut Rachel and Shilo in the West Bank.
“I urge Israel to reverse the decision. The settlements are illegal, in violation of international law and are undermining the prospects of a peaceful solution between the Israelis and the Palestinians,” said Mr Støre.
