“I congratulate the Kenyan people on a peaceful election,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide.
“I congratulate the Kenyan people on a peaceful election,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide.
“The Kenyan people have shown great patience. Many have had to wait in long queues to vote. They have also waited patiently for the results. Despite some violent episodes, on the whole the election has proceeded peacefully. Voter turnout has been high. This indicates that people have confidence in democracy and the new constitution, and believe that every vote counts.
“It’s important that any legal disputes about the election results are dealt with by the courts in accordance with Kenyan legislation. I hope and believe that all political parties in Kenya will do what they can to prevent violence in the time ahead.
“Norway and Kenya cooperate closely in a number of fields. For example, Norway is supporting Kenya in developing a stronger democracy. We are willing to continue this support,” said Mr Eide.
