Review paper: DDR strategies and implications for post conflict economic recovery
Applicant: Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (Nupi)
Application approved: November 2005
Reference in the MFA: 1051338
The review paper will assess how the economic agenda of former combatants interacts with the implementation of Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) strategies, and to what extent DDR strategies impair or facilitate economic recovery. This aspect constitutes a crucial variable for understanding why many states fail to achieve economic and political stability after the declared end to conflict. The review paper will conclude by identifying questions that may inspire the research agenda on DDR strategies and post conflict recovery.
