Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre gave these remarks at signing of a joint declaration on cooperation towards a dynamic partnership Norway–Indonesia -in Indonesia in November 2010.
The Minister based his words on these talking points
- A great pleasure to be here on this special occasion:
- the celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries, and
- the signing of a joint declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership.
- Cooperation between our countries has increased considerably in recent years. The joint declaration marks a further strengthening of our relations. It underscores the importance of using existing opportunities to forge new alliances in a changing world.
- Norway greatly values its cooperation with Indonesia, which today covers areas such as
- climate and energy,
- democracy and human rights,
- international political questions and trade.
- On climate: Our bilateral partnership on reducing greenhouse emissions from deforestation, forest degradation and conversion of peatland: ground-breaking in terms of form and scope, and among the most innovative arrangements that have been established within international cooperation. A joint contribution by our two countries to the global efforts to combat climate change.
- Our human rights dialogue: An important arena for political talks and thematic discussions on relevant human rights issues for almost 10 years. We highly appreciate the cooperation on democracy and human rights.
- Global security: Norway and Indonesia cooperate actively in multilateral forums in the areas of
- disarmament, non-proliferation,
- humanitarian disarmament, international humanitarian law,
- the health-related UN Millennium Development Goals,
- foreign policy and global health.
- Norway considers Indonesia an important partner in all of these areas.
- Trade between Norway and Indonesia: growing rapidly and gradually becoming more diversified. I hope that this trend will continue and that economic relations will be further strengthened in the coming years.
- On behalf of the Norwegian Government I would like to thank Indonesia for many years of fruitful cooperation based on mutual respect and trust. I look forward to continuing to work together with Indonesia on both bilateral and multilateral issues.
