The third annual Trygve Lie Symposium on Fundamental Freedoms will be chaired by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre at the International Peace Institute in New York on 24 September 2010. This year’s symposium will focus on the UN framework for human rights and business: “Protect, Respect and Remedy”.
The third annual Trygve Lie Symposium on Fundamental Freedoms will be chaired by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre at the International Peace Institute in New York on 24 September 2010. This year’s symposium will focus on the UN framework for human rights and business: “Protect, Respect and Remedy”.
The symposium gathers representatives from the top level of governments, civil society and the business sector to discuss challenges relating to human rights and business and the work of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) on this area, Professor John Ruggie.
The event will take the form of a panel discussion chaired by Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. SRSG Professor Ruggie will briefly introduce his work on "Protect, Respect and Remedy" – the framework for human rights and business. The panel participants will then give short comments, which will be followed by an open discussion.
